Education Sector

Education Sector is the biggest sector under Mongar Dzongkhag Administration consisting of 50 Schools including one private higher Secondary school and 2 ECRs. As of 1st July, 2010 there 9963 students studying in the above schools through kindergarten to Grade XII. In addition to 530 teachers and 210 support staff, there are 72 NFE Instructors in the 66 Non Formal Education Centres spread across the Dzongkhag. There are 1135(302 male and 833 Female) learners attending Non Formal Classes in the above centres. Although the Schools are managed independently by the Principals and his/her team of staff, it is facilitated by 1 DEO and 3 ADEOs at the Dzongkhag headquarter, out of which one ADEO is stationed at wiringla for the Dungkhag Schools.

The main Aims of Education Sector is to provide Basic Quality Education to all the school going age children and secondary education services to those children who are capable of pursuing further studies for lifelong learning or to pursue their career.

In trying to reach the unreached and to reduce the walking distance of children, the sector has planned to establish 3 more additional ECRs at Wangling, Chaligonpa, and Sangkarma. Further, the Dzongkhag and the schools are continuously advocating for enrolment in their catchment area including challenged students. Having attended GNH Workshops at Paro during winter vacation, the principals are trying their best to infuse GNH values in the education system wherever possible. Despite of sheer number of schools and students, the Sector has managed to achieve more than 90 percent of primary enrolment.
