Gongdue Gewog

Gongdue Gewog

Gongdue gewog has a population of about 1329 and consist of 267 households covering an area of about 187 square kilometers, bordering Pema Gatshel and Zhemgang Dzongkhags.

Gongdue is one of the remotest and least developed gewogs under Mongar Dzongkhag. Lack of motorable roads and very long distance from the Dzongkhag Headquarters renders delivery of development efforts difficult and costly. However, with the establishment of Drungkhag at Werringla the situation is expected to improve a lot in upcoming Plan.
To open up the two Kheng geog to the Headquarters during the 10th Plan will remain the priority.

People depend on maize and due to poor soil conditions, lack of adequate farm input supplies and irrigation facility, farm productivity and crop yields are low. As a result, Gongdue remain a food insecure area. The gewog is highly prone to famine especially during droughts.

The gewog has four community schools with 289 students. Two Basic Health Units (BHU), one sub-post and two Out Reach Clinics (ORC) render basic health services in the gewog. With twelve drinking water supply scheme, about 60% of the population in the gewog has access to piped drinking water supply.

The Geog has 8 important lhakhangs, namely, Tsuglhakhang, Tashi Choling Lhakhang, Tsuglakang, Choekiling Lhakhang, Phumchung Gonpa Lhakhang, Yeshi Choling Lhakhang, Tsuglhakhang, and Jangchub Choeling Lhakhang.

To provide services to the Gewog is very difficult and costly and no market nearby to generate income of the people, as a result, people of the gewog are generally poor, no proper shelter, difficult to get a basic necessities for survival. Besides, they could not afford to educate their children and make them the higher studies beyond the basic education.
