Balam Gewog

Balam Geog

Balam gewog consists of 227 households with a population of about 1092 and covers an area of about 27 square kilometers.

Maize is the staple food and the principal cereal crop in the gewog. Paddy, millet, buckwheat and spring wheat are also grown on small scale. Potato is the main source of cash income for the people. Mango, orange and walnut cultivation is also picking up in the gewog. Limited farm infrastructure, in particular farm road and irrigation channel, and lack of access to market is hampering farm productivity.

Due to rugged terrain, scattered settlement and lack of motor road, delivery of services is difficult and costly.

The gewog has one community school with over 200 students. It has four Out Reach Clinics (ORC) and one Basic Health Unit (BHU) to render health services to the population. About 94% of the population has access to piped water supply.
