Saling Gewog

Saling Gewog has 11 main villages with 439 households, covering an area of 462 square kilometer. It has a population of about 2110. Though the east-west highway passes through the Gewog, most of the villages are located far away from the road head and takes minimum one day to reach, making delivery of services difficult and costly. Maize and paddy are the principle crops cultivated in the Gewog. Other cereal crops grown are millet, barley, buckwheat and beans (pulse) but in limited scale. Off-season vegetable production is also popular among the farmers. Because of its proximity to Lingmethang and Gyalpozhing Township, vegetables have become one of the important sources of cash income for the farmers. Other cash crops include oranges, mango and soft-shell walnut. One Basic Health Unit (BHU) and eight Out Reach Clinics (ORC) render basic health services in the gewog. With 20 rural water supply schemes, about 99% of the households have access to piped drinking water supply. The gewog has six community schools with about 539 students.
