Khengkhar Gewog

Kengkhar gewog consists of 13 villages with 423 households and it has a population of 1996, covering an area of about 100 square kilometers. Kengkhar is also one of the remotest gewogs under Mongar Dzongkhag. The gewog has no motorable road and takes over three days on foot from the Dzongkhag headquarters. This renders delivery of development services difficult and costly. Despite favorable climatic conditions, the gewog faces acute water shortage. As a result, farm productivity and crop yield is low. Maize is the main cereal crop but the yield is poor. The Geog have two schools, Kengkhar Pry School and Udaric Community Pry School with about 300 students. One BHU-II and two ORCs render basic health services to the people. The Geog is one of the remotest under the Mongar Dzongkhag. The problems mainly relates to lack of access. Problem of acute water shortage is expected to solve during the end of 9th Plan. However, the more water source may have to be located during the 10th Plan.
