Jurmey Gewog

Jurmey gewog consists of nine villages with 285 households and it has a population of over 1449. The gewog covers an area of about 55 square kilometers. Jurmey is one of the remotest and least developed gewogs under Mongar Dzongkhag. Lack of motorable road and the distance (4-5 days’ walk) from the Dzongkhag headquarters render delivery of development services difficult and costly. Maize is the main cereal crop and due to poor soil conditions, lack of adequate farm input supply and irrigation facility, productivity and crop yield is low. Jurmy is a food in-secure area and is prone to famine. With inadequate food intake and lack of cash income, health status and quality of life of the people remain very poor. The gewog has two community schools with over three hundred forty eight students (2006 record). One Basic Health Unit (BHU) and three ORC render basic health services in the gewog. The gewog has eight drinking water supply schemes and covered 57% of the population.
