Drepong Gewog

Drepung Gewog is situated between Mongar, Thangrong, Saling and Kengkhar Gewogs. The Gewog has a population of about 1094 people consisting of 240 households covering an area of about 51 square kilometers. Settlements are scattered and lack of access roads to the gewog makes delivery of services difficult and costly. At present Geog has one Community Pry. School located in Zunglen and a Primary School in Bumpazor. About 43% of the school going children suffers from poor access to Education. This is mainly due to scattered nature of settlement. Besides, the geog has RNR centre with two extension staff working in the geog. The geog has good access to Health with exception to Tsangkhar village. About 91% of populations are access to safe drinking water which is expected to achieve 100% by end of 9th Plan. Overall, the geog has moderate access to all the facilities. With completion of ongoing farm road construction from Gyelposhing to Tsangkhar, the geog will have access to road and people will be benefited interms of farm inputs, production and marketing of the product. More than 31% of the households have access to power supply. However, the Geog does not have telecommunication services and the situation is expected to change during the end of 9th Plan. Over 300 acres of land in the gewog are devoted to dry land cultivation with maize as the main crop. Paddy cultivation is limited to about 40 acres of wetland. Limited infrastructure, like irrigation and farm road impacts on farm productivity and crop yield. Sale of vegetable at Kurichu market constitute main source of cash income for Drepung population.
