Drametse Gewog


Dramtse Gewog consists of 557 households with a population of over 2230 people and the Geog covers an area of about 79 square kilometers. The Gewog is connected to the Mongar-Tashigang highway by an 18 kilometer feeder road. And in the upcoming year there is farm road proposal from Drametse to Narang with about 10 Kms which will benefit the larger section of the population. Two Community schools and one lower Secondary School render education services in the gewog. There are over 787 children studying in the three schools. The gewog has one Basic Health Unit (BHU) and 5 ORCs to render basic health services. Over 68% of the population has access to piped drinking water supply.Due to poor soil fertility, farm productivity is low. Over 900 acres of land are under dry land cultivation and maize is the major cereal crop. Paddy is cultivated in about 180 acres of wetland.Potato is the main source of cash income for the people in the gewog. Orange and other fruits are also grown. Resin tapping and essential oil extraction are important income generating activities among the people in the gewog.

The Geog has 8 important Lhakhangs, viz, Thegchog Namdoel Ugyen Choling Lhakhang, Sherim Tsugla Lhakhang, Lemi Lhakhang, Bazor Lhakhang, Garpa Lhakhang, Gonpa Lhakhang, Nagtshang Lhakhang, and Lhakhang.
